i’m in the research and development stage of a new project with the working title, ‘land lines’ a culmination of some aches and longings i’ve had re: reconnection with community, memory, belonging, identity
memory. collection. ritual. community building culminating in an installation but continuing as a living archive.
a hybrid installation mixing high tech and low tech built from a series of community gatherings which lay the foundations for this memory project. then, an audience (online + irl) are invited to contribute to the installation.
<aside> 👥 Local loop community circuit / hub hub connected to something bigger but is a central part of the project / practice via ritual, sharing, collecting, archiving, being together.
sessions are themed, structured at first to practice digging for memory, practices e.g. freewrites, recipe-sharing / cooking, show and tell, listening practice (sharing songs, folk / playing music), visualisation through storytelling etc.
each session is anchored by an opening and closing embodiment practice to ‘ground’ / land. space for sharing. tea. connection. sound

<aside> ☎️ Call-collect / voicemail rebuilding a rotary telephone as a mic/headphone. like greeting cards can be used as mic + speakers. a physical irl method to collect a voicemail.
****also, an online a voicemail service is used for virtual attendees of the installation.
these voicemails are for people to leave their memories and messages. this will be edited into a sound-piece which threads into a radio programme and will be played out at the installation. there is a live feed which adds new voicemails to the soundscape.
